Iron Maiden… They formed the band 30 years ago, but they’ re still going on making great albums. It’ s not an ordinary album. It’ s different with its guitar tones and musical background. And you must listen it more carefully than the past albums. There’ re lots of things that you may not realize at first. I understood that I can have an idea about the album only after listening it for several times. Perhaps it can make you bored at the first time, but after listenig for a while you’ ll like it. I think the reason is long intros and shorter guitar solos. The best charactersitic of the album is that combines the progressive and acoustic themes very well. It also includes sincere and emotional vocals.
In fact, I would expect longer guitar solos. But it’s ok so. I think Iron Maiden wanted to make a difference. And unfortunately we hear the volume of the bass lower. We can’ t hear the popping tones of the bass as in the past albums. When we heared them we could definetely say yes it’ s Maiden. That would be better. Anyway, let’s look at the songs.

Different World
The first song of the album is a bit fast in general. It reminds us Dance Of death, Brave New albums. The lyrics are about hope. It tells us everybody perceives the world different, and we must explain it. Especially:
“Tell me what you can hear
And then tell me what you see
Everybody has a different way to view the world
I would like you to know, when you see the simple things
To appreciate this life it’s not too late to learn ”
includes examples that comfirms Maiden view. We must know the value of life. It is never late to learn. This song is one of the best songs of the album for me. Bruce’ s voice is great. Especially in slow parts starting with “Don’t wanna be here… “ is fascinating.

These Colours Don’t Run
The song begins with a nice intro and goes on with a nice rhythm that is just one of the nice rhythms you’ ll hear in the album. The guitar solos are wonderful in the middle of the song. It’s so fascinating that is impossible not to be affected. I guess Adrian Smith plays the first guitar solo.
It’ s about war. It tells us the reasons of the war and the things that people leave behind in the war.

Brighter Than a Thousand Suns
I think this song tells us about a cursed society beacuse of war. It’ s about war, too, starting with a slow intro that explains that emotion. There’ re different parts in the song, some parts are acoustic but most parts are hard and speed rhythms. There’ s a difference in this song that solo starts too early and it’ s not usually seen in maiden songs. There’ re 2 solos in it. They’ re nice solos but I must say that they’ re not very good as well composed maiden solos.

The Pilgrim
It’ s song about faith. You can understand from the title of the song that why they use Arabian tunes. I like the melody of the song and it’ s one of the best songs of the album.

The Longest Day
Here is a song about war again. It begins with a nice intro and slow but quite effective voice of Dickinson. Intro is a bit long so it can be boring but there’ re nice drum rhythms in the middle of the song and they’ re the beginning of the changing of the progress. Then solo starts. It’s the best solo of the the album I think. It’ s really excellent. Especially listen to the second part carefully.

Out Of the Shadows
It begins with drums and main riff of the song and continues with sincere and emotional vocals. In general, the song has a melancholy feel. Dickinson makes this kind of songs really very well I think. There’ re also short solos in the song. At the end, tempo starts to get higher and we can hear nice clean guitar tones as in maiden style. It reminds me “Wasting Love”.

The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg
You can guess Murray’s playing from the intro. It begins with one the nice intros played in this album and Bruce’ s vocals. It has nice rhythms and solos. I think it’ s the one of the best of the songs in the album, too.

For the Greater of Good of God
In fact, I don’ t understand where the subject of the lyrics comes from. Its melody is beautiful, too. I think it’ s a creative song. Iron Maiden shows us here how creative and active they are even long years passed.

Lord of light
The intro is nice with soft vocals. Then the speed gets higher. Vocals are reproachful. Bruce sings like he is angry with something. We hear nice clean guitar tones again in this song.

The legacy
The last song of the album’ s title was chosen as the name of the album at first. But this would make fans think it’ s the last album. So they changed it. We can understand from the lyrics that it gives us some advices. In the beginnig there’ re nice intros and the vocals. After vocal ends, an excellent solo starts that I can’ t find words to define. It captures you and takes you to the infinity. In the middles tempo gets higher again. It’ s really a song as a legacy.
