Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has confirmed that the group has completed the backing tracks for their ninth studio album.

During an interview at a festival in Belgium, the drummer confirmed that Metallica are getting ready to release the follow-up to 2003’s ‘St Anger’ in February 2008.

“It doesn’t sound like ‘St. Anger’ to me,” he told Studio Brussel. “It’s a little early to kind of put in a soundbite exactly. But it doesn’t sound anything like ‘St. Anger’.

“It’s probably a little more dynamic, and a little more varied, and it has lots of different nutty Metallica stuff on it.”

Metallica will perform a show at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 8 July as part of their Sick Of The Studio ‘07 tour.

Las Ulrich said “Sometimes we get a little tired of staring at the same four walls of the recording studio, as well as the same faces that inhabit the studio day in and day out, and we need to get out and just play! This tour gives us a chance to stretch out a bit and jam in front of real fans.”
